2021 Pinot Bianco Riserva Vorberg, Cantina Terlaner

A gorgeous Pinot Bianco which is one of the finest white wines produced in Italy.

Cantina Terlano produces some of Italy’s greatest and longest lived white wines. Based in the southern part of the most northerly Italian region of Alto Adige, here they grow predominately French varieties that were brought to the region two hundred years go by the Napoleonic invasion. Although you find plenty of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc grown here, it’s Pinot Bianco that produces the finest wines.

The Riserva Vorberg is produced from the south-facing slopes of Monzoccolo in the Terlano DOC area at altitudes of between 450 and 650 meters. It is fermented and aged in large old casks which offers extra refinement and adds to the wine’s glorious texture.

It has the most wonderful straw yellow colour, with initial aromas of honeydew melon, white peach, pear and yellow apple. After more time in the glass you find more complex flavours of quince jelly, dried fruit such as pear, orange and pineapple, along with hints of jasmine and smoky minerality. On the palate the wine offers power, concentration and vibrancy. The fruit character is as complex as the aromas. The finish offers saline nuances and silky texture.

White wine doesn’t get much better than this.
