2020 Finca Dofi, Alvaro Palacios, Priorat

Well, I thought 2019 was pretty spectacular and then I tasted the 2020 – a beautiful wine.

The grapes are from from Alvaro Palacios’ original vineyard that he purchased on his arrival in Priorat in the late 1980s. Since it’s very first vintage in 1990, Finca Dofí has been synonymous with quality wine from this historic region.

This wine was recently poured as part of a Songbird Wines Spanish dinner and for many it was the wine of the evening. It’s 83% Garnacha with, 12% Cariñena, 4% Picapol and the remaining 1% the white grapes Macabeo and Garnacha Blanca. After some time in the glass it really began to sing, with aromas of rose petal, raspberries and wild strawberries. It’s elegance and finesse is really something and every sip was savoured. It was served alongside the 2011 Finca Dofi which, although fully mature, was pipped by the younger wine.

Although it is lovely now it will only get better in the next few years so I highly recommend buying at least two bottles of this wonderful wine – one for now and one for later.
