A step up in quality here from the Origen and exceptional value.

Bodegas Madai is owned by Gonzalo Amigo and brother Daniel. With both pursuing other successful careers, they hadn’t really considered owning a winery, but when the option of either selling or recovering their grandparents’ vineyards came up, they felt the latter was the only choice and Bodegas Madai was born. After tasting all their wines I can safely vouch that they definitely made the right decision.

Made from 90-year-old vines with fermentation in stainless steel and then further ageing in barriques and foudres. This is a proper step up in quality and the concentration here is superb. More of the black cherry and brambly fruit but juicier and with extra spice.

I’ve not tasted a better Mencia in this price point – delicious.
