2021 Albacea Monastrell, Paco Mulero, Jumilla

£12.50 inc. VAT

Winner of ‘Best Value Red’ at the 2019 Wines From Spain Awards.

Jumilla is a tough place to be a vine, yet these old bush vines, high in the hot, dusty hills of Jumilla produce beautiful, fruit-packed, hugely appealing wines from the local Monastrell grape. Grapes come from 40 year old bush vines. Vineyards are 700 m above sea level to the north east of Jumilla, on sandy, chalky, rocky soil. The grapes were hand-harvested. Fermented in stainless steel. Aged in French and American oak for around 4 months.

The nose has rich plum and blackcurrant pastille characters, with delicate vanilla spice and cedar. The palate is ripe, smooth and opulent with layers of pure blackcurrant, juicy blackberry, lush spicy plum and cherry fruit, minerality and fine tannins on the finish.
