2019 Carralcoba Albariño, Eulogio Pomares, Rias Baixas

The best Albariño Songbird have ever tasted and a gorgeous glass of white wine. Produced by Eulogio Pomares (a legend in these parts) from a single vineyard of 70 year old vines, this is fermented and aged on its lees for 8 months in 1,200 litre chestnut barrels (foudres). The result is stunning – silky and complex with aromas of apples, lemons pears and a hint of mandarin. Rich concentration, silky texture and wonderful minerality.

Not cheap for sure but you get what you pay for and this is worth every penny in my book. The 2018 made number 3 in my top white wines of 2020 and sold out within days. Now we have very limited allocation of 36 bottles that has just arrived and is again totally delicious.

It’s lovely now but ages magnificently so lay down a bottle or two if you can.
