2014 La Dame de Montrose, St. Estephe, Bordeaux

La Dame de Montrose is the fantastic second wine of ‘Super Second Growth’ Château Montrose.

This wine is always a winner but in 2014 it seemed to surpass itself with it even getting a higher rating than Château Lafite-Rothschild on Jancisrobinson.com, following a blind tasting.

It’s a blend of 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. Around 20% of the Grand Vin made it into the blend with much of the remainder coming from a new parcel that was once owned by Montrose back in 1855.

There’s wonderful purity and elegance. It has incredible lift and lovely minerality. I can’t remember enjoying a claret as much as I enjoyed the bottle I opened recently.
