2014 Château Gloria, St. Julien, Bordeaux

£49.75 inc. VAT

Glorious Gloria! One of the left bank’s most endearing and best value wines.

This unclassified Château was founded in the 1950s by Henri Martin. Over the course of many years he acquired parcels of vines from Cru Classé properties and created a 50 hectare vineyard. This Château may have no classification but it sure has class!

This wine is still a bit of a baby. If you’re going to open it soon (as in 2021) then make sure you decant it at least two hours before drinking. However, with plenty of air you are rewarded with a poised and structured Bordeaux with layers of subtle black fruit, hints of cedar and tobacco. Has a long finish too.

The best place for this wine to be is in a cellar and I think any serious wine lover should make sure they have a bottle or two in theirs for the mid 2020s when this really starts reaching its potential. I have.
