“One of the world’s great wines and an extraordinarily elegant expression of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grown in Italy”
Robert Parker
2015 Sassicaia has just been released to great acclaim as have the 2016 vintages of its 2nd & 3rd wines Guidalberto & Le Difese. These wines offer amazing value and a chance to taste the superb terroir of Sassicaia at a fraction of the price. Here’s a brief history of the estate.
The iconic wine of Sassicaia was born when the truly visionary Marchese Mario Incisa Della Rochetta realised the vast potential of Bordeaux varieties in Bolgheri, a coastal area. This project was honed over twenty years and only shared with close friends at the time. However, the great quality could not be kept a secret forever and eventually the family released the first commercial vintage of Sassicaia in 1968. Since then, accolades and acclaim have followed one of the most profound Cabernet dominant wines in the world to become the flagship Super Tuscan, and arguably Italy’s most important wine.
Sassicaia’s siblings Guidalberto and Le Difese are more approachable in their youth but still offer the perfumed fruit and structure of Italy’s most famous wine.
