2022 Alo Jais Noir Carignan – Super Juicy Quaffing Red For Under £10 A Bottle

We finally seem to be hitting that time of year again when alfresco cooking and dining becomes the norm, and if you’re anything like me you’ll be looking for a nice juicy and ripe red to wash down a chargrilled meat feast. So, with timing as exquisite as the late Charlie Watts (and almost as impeccably presented with its very cool label) may I introduce the 2022 Alo Jais Noir Carignan, an absolute stonking red from the Côtes Catalanes area of the Languedoc Roussillon. The grapes sourced from old bush vines grown in the wild region between Corbieres and the Mediterranean which the winemaker, Guillaume Letang, discovered when curiosity got the better of him and he ventured on a journey of this area that was unknown to him. The wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel so there’s no oak used at all, and this gives the wine its upfront drinkability. As much as I enjoy complex and sophisticated reds, there are times when a glass of something that’s a bit more ‘wham bam, here I am – drink me’ is what you need and that’s exactly what we have here. It’s the kind of wine that works just as well being drunk from a picnic tumbler as it does from a fancy Zalto glass. The wine arrives next week and will be retailing at £10.75 but it is available here to pre order by the case at £59.70 – £9.95 per bottle.

2022 Alo Jais Noir Carignan, IGP Côtes Catalanes, Languedoc Roussillon @ £59.70 Inc. VAT per case (6)
Intense aromas of red and dark brambly fruit with hints of black olive and rose petal. On the palate it’s as juicy as you like with plenty of ripe dark fruit, soft tannins and fresh acidity. Uncomplicated but more than delivers the goods and is dangerously moreish. The perfect barbecue red.

Free delivery to all CT and select SE postcodes. For the rest of UK there is a delivery charge of £8.75 for orders under £150. Full delivery terms can be viewed here.

2021 Quatro Ventos – Portugal’s Top Value Red

Few Countries offer better value around the £10 a bottle mark than Portugal and, in my opinion, one of the very best at this price point is Quatro Ventos from the Douro valley. I remember this wine blowing me away at a Wines of Portugal tasting back in 2019 and then one week later my […]
