NV Bohigas Cava Brut Reserva, Fermi Bohigas, Penedés – £16/£13.70 – A fantastic Cava that has plenty of citrusy freshness and a superb mousse. This proves that when it comes to fizz, quality Cava is hard to beat at £10-£20 level.

2022 Wild House Chenin Blanc, Western Cape, South Africa – £9.25/£7.95 – One of the best value wines on the list and at sub £8 a total bargain. Made from bush vines with aromas of ripe peach and tropical fruit. It’s beautifully textured and it remains a mystery how it remains so cheap. I’m not complaining though.

2019 Vetiver Rioja Viura, Bodegas Ontañon, Spain – £12/£9.75 – Rich and mellow white Rioja that has flavours of pineapple, lemons and a hint of brioche. A white at the peak of its powers.

2021 Chinon Sélection, Pierre Chainier, Loire Valley – £12.50/£9.95 – Made from 35 year old Cabernet Franc vines this has the classic blackcurrant flavours and earthy spice you expect but at a bargain price.

2021 Rippa Dori Roble, Ribera del Duero, Spain – £12.75/£10.95 – I showcased  the wineries more premium wines earlier in the year and now it’s the turn of their entry level and this proves that inexpensive Ribera del Duero is not an oxymoron. Ripe and full with flavours of dark cherry, plum and a little oaky spice, this will warm your cockles nicely on a chilly Autumn evening.

2020 Aquilaia Maremma Toscana Rosso, Tuscany, Italy – £14.50/£11.50 – a gorgeous Sangiovese based red with 10% Petit Verdot added to the blend to give extra structure. Aromas of red cherry and a touch of spice.
