2022 Erbaluce di Caluso, Cieck, Piemonte

£17.50 inc. VAT

New in and one of our top picks for Summer drinking, this wine from the small, family-run Cieck estate in Northern Italy is refreshingly zesty with well balanced fruits and minerality and a slight hint of effervescence.

One of the more obscure (although perhaps soon to be favourite?) grape varieties, these Erbaluce grapes are from the Piemonte region, just north of Turin, where the vineyards are mainly situated on hills formed by a glacier which came down from the Alps in the last ice age. The soil there is well draining and rich in minerals, and the area is known for its beautiful light and crystalline air. Think cool evening winds and crisp mountain sunshine that make for great temperature variation and the slow ripening of fruit.

Aromas of green apple, cut grass and honeysuckle make way for lemon and apricot flavours on the palate with a long, crisp finish, that all pairs exceptionally well with the likes of seared scallops and most other seafood.
