May we introduce the 2022 Alo Jais Noir Carignan, an absolute stonking red from the Côtes Catalanes area of the Languedoc Roussillon.
The grapes sourced from old bush vines grown in the wild region between Corbieres and the Mediterranean which the winemaker, Guillaume Letang, discovered when curiosity got the better of him and he ventured on a journey of this area that was unknown to him. The wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel so there’s no oak used at all, and this gives the wine its upfront drinkability.
If you fancy a glass of something that’s a bit more ‘wham bam, here I am – drink me’ then that’s exactly what we have here. It’s the kind of wine that works just as well being drunk from a picnic tumbler as it does from a fancy Zalto glass.
Intense aromas of red and dark brambly fruit with hints of black olive and rose petal. On the palate it’s as juicy as you like with plenty of ripe dark fruit, soft tannins and fresh acidity. Uncomplicated but more than delivers the goods and is dangerously moreish. The perfect barbecue red.
