This top notch cool climate rosé is Chile’s answer to Sancerre rosé
The cépage is 100% Pinot Noir and the grapes are grown in the limestone soils of the Lamari valley. The coastal influences means the temperature in these vineyards never rises above 24C so this long, cool growing season results in the wine having superb balance and the limestone soil gives an extra minerality to the wine too. These two factors are what make the wine the closest thing you’ll get to a Sancerre Rosé from Chile.
This was first tasted this when visiting friends one bank holiday weekend and it went down a storm. The hostess, who could be known as the ‘Sancerre Rosé Queen’ thought this was “deeee-licious!” and she was not wrong and we swiftly emptied the bottle, it’s that kind of wine – complex but totally gluggable. AND, it’s only 12.5% alcohol so a good 1% under many Provence rosés. What’s not to like?
