2021 ‘Ignaccio’ Rosso di Montalcino, Il Marroneto

£48.75 inc. VAT

An outstanding and affordable wine from  an estate considered ‘Montalcino Royalty’!

Few wines have captivated me like Ignaccio did when I first tasted it. There was the purity, the concentration, the complexity – but most of all the downright deliciousness of it. It seems to be going through a purple patch of being consistently brilliant with 2018, 2019 and 2020 all gaining excellent scores and now 2021 has made it a quartet of great wines.

The wine starts as a Brunello di Montalcino but during maturation in cask, winemaker Alessandro Mori, will make the decision to declassify a number of bottis to be Ignaccio Rosso di Montalcino. These will spend a total of 18 months in barrel and then a further 6 months in bottle before release. Nice work Alessandro, because as outstanding as the Brunello is, this Rosso allows your brilliance to be appreciated at an earlier stage. It’s not just me that’s a fan of this wine, it receives glowing tasting notes from all  –

“This is a model of purity with finessed textures and a pretty inner sweetness that perfectly accentuates its crisp wild berries…” 92 points, Vinous

“Brilliant, youthful ruby red colour. Earthy, complex strawberry and raspberry nose. Substance and freshness. Lively, juicy and with long-lasting, sandy tannins. High drinking flow.” Jancis Robinson

“Bold, bright fruit and ripe cherry.” 94 points, Wine Advocate

I don’t think I have ever tasted a wine so consistently good across four vintages like. Buy it whilst you can.
