Gorgeous red wine from the super exciting region of Bierzo in north east Spain.
Cesar Marquez is young but has the super of experience of working with his uncle who just happens to be the wine making legend Raul Perez. Cesar has started his own project and Parajes is made with a selection of the best vineyards in the Bierzo region. The grapes are hand picked and each plot is vinified separately in open tanks. The wine is then aged in old oak barrels.
This has a super expressive nose of dark berry fruit, black cherry and hints of liquorice. The tannins are fresh and the wine really well balanced. It is lovely now but can certainly age for years to come. This is a superb introduction to one of Spain’s rising talents. The blend is 85% Mencia, 7% Alicante Bouschet and the remaining 8% indigenous white varieties.
Super with a pork belly stew.
