A gloriously delicious old vine Priorat that is drinking beautifully right now.
Cami Pesseroles is one of the single vineyard wines from the fantastic Priorat producer Mas Martinet. The vineyard lies in the famous village of Gratallops and the blend is 60% Carinena (80 year old vines) and 40% Garnacha from younger vines of 30 years old. It is fermented in open chestnut barrels and aged in chestnut barrels and damajoana (large glass flasks).
Mas Martinet was established in 1981, founded by Montse Ovejero and Josep Lluís Pérez. In 1996, Josep Lluís Pérez handed over the rights of handling and overseeing Mas Martinet to his daughter, Sara Pérez, and she has worked tirelessly to give the winery the prestige that it holds today.
The 2015 Camí Pesseroles is what great Priorat is all about – intense aromas of red and dark fruits, violets and smoky minerality. The concentration of the wine is astounding with intense and juicy black cherry, blueberry cheesecake and a silky mineral texture. However it’s the beautifully balanced freshness that really puts this above many of its peers and makes it, for me, one of best Priorats you can buy under £100 a bottle. Only 5 bottles remaining!
