2020 Bourgogne Blanc, Domaine Bachelet-Monot, Burgundy

£30.25 inc. VAT

Top value Burgundy here from a rising star Domaine and not a lot to go round.

Great value and Burgundy are rarely mentioned in the same sentence these days but it can be found. One way of hunting out a bargain is choosing a plain, generic wine (Bourgogne Blanc or Bourgogne Rouge) from an outstanding producer. It may not work every time but every now and then, you can strike gold and with this delicious Chardonnay you can head straight to the top of the podium.

Although only established in 2005, Domaine Bachelet-Monot is making some serious wines with brothers Alex and Mark at the helm. They have a hands off approach to wine making – not quite natural but very minimal intervention. They also happen to own vines in some very prestigious areas.

This gorgeous white is made from fruit mainly sourced from 20-50 year old vines within Puligny Montrachet, along with younger vines in Chassagne. It’s fermented and matured in 350l barrels. The wine has excellent structure and a nuttiness associated with a Meursault – yes, it’s serious stuff.

At under 30 notes this an absolute bargain so get in quick – the price can only go one way, just ask Yazz.
