2018 Envínate Táganan Blanco, Tenerife, Canary Islands

£28.75 inc. VAT

Táganan is the old local name for this rugged vineyard area, located on the northeastern side of Tenerife, where vines are planted on primary volcanic rock on cliffs just above the Atlantic. The vineyard is very old, planted with a variety of native white varieties, some of which remain unidentified. Vines are planted on a combination of different volcanic soils. The climate is Atlantic with an average rainfall of 550 mm. Viticulture is organic. The soil is worked by hand without using any kind of chemicals. The vines are free-standing, completely untrained.

This delicious white wine is a blend of the many different native white varieties including Marmajuelo, Malvasia, Listán blanco, Gual y Forastera and Albillo all of which are vinified separately with some parcels undergoing skin contact. After fermentation the wine ages for 8 months in stainless steel and neutral oak barrels.

A truly unique and characterful wine, smoky and salty with notes of lime and yellow apples. It is rich and complex on the palate, balanced by refreshing acidity and a persistent finish.
