2017 Château Potensac, Cru Bourgeois, Médoc, Bordeaux

£32.00 inc. VAT

Now this is a canny buy. One of the finest Cru Bourgeois in the Médoc from an exceptional vintage for just over £30?

Now produced by the team behind ‘Super Second’ growth Leoville Lascases this Claret is seriously good value. Located in the northern Medoc, just above St. Estephe, this an excellent wine from a massively underrated vintage. It is a blend of 44% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot and was aged in 33% new oak.

The 2017 Château Potensac was universally well received on release and, as ever, is considered one of the best value wines of the vintage. Its score hits the early 90s points with all the main wine critics including Vinous, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and James Suckling, along with a very favourable review from Jancis Robinson MW.

The great thing about the the 2017 vintage is that the wines are very approachable in their youth and this is no exception, with its enticing aromas of black cherry, cassis wand hints of smoky spice. It’s already smooth as velvet on the palate with the tannins starting to soften and create a silky elegance. Irresistible now but this will reward the patient for years to come.
