2017 Château de Pez, Cru Bourgeois, St. Estephe, Bordeaux

£44.75 inc. VAT

Rich but elegant Bordeaux from an outstanding vintage.

Situated in the northern part of the Medoc within the St. Estephe Appellation Château de Pez is an excellent example of what can happen with a bit of investment. The Chateau was purchased by Champagne producer Louis Roederer in 1995 and since then quality and consistency have gone hand in hand.

The blend is 51% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon along with 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. 40% of the wine is aged in a new oak  with the remainder in 1 & 2 year old casks. It also sees no filtration. This is a wine that starts to really evolve after 5 years so you can open this up now but it also has great ageing potential too.

A wonderful aroma of rich, dark fruit tantalises the senses with underlying flavours of cassis and a touch of vanilla. Lovely richness and soft tannins make this an absolute delight to drink right now but there’s plenty of life left here.
