2017 Chapelle de Potensac, Medoc, Bordeaux

Original price was: £19.75.Current price is: £17.95. inc. VAT

Chapelle de Potensac is the 2nd wine of the superb Cru Bourgeois classified property Château Potensac, one of the best value wines in the Médoc.

Chapelle de Potensac is made from younger vines situated either side of the Grand Vin vineyards that sit just north of St. Estephe in the Médoc region of Bordeaux. The blend here is 71% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot and this slightly higher percentage of Merlot, along with just 2% new oak used in ageing, make the wine more forward and approachable. You’ll be hard pressed to find a better bottle of Claret at this price.

Tasted amongst a bunch of Clarets from other (more prestigious) vintages, this really shone. Whereas the 2016s were tannic and tight, this was mellow and enchanting. There’s an elegantly perfumed nose of strawberry, raspberry and plum. You also pick up a bit of peppery spice and the oak is very subtle. Very mellow and silky on the palate with those ripe, red fruits really showing through. This is a Bordeaux for those looking for a bit of gentle finesse and elegance.
