2016 Sarget de Gruaud Larose, St. Julien, Bordeaux

Original price was: £36.75.Current price is: £29.95. inc. VAT

The outstanding 2016 vintage has produced one of the best Sargets in years.

Château Gruaud Larose is a second growth (2me Cru) from the left bank of Bordeaux. It is situated in the commune of St. Julien and regularly offers one of the best buys of a Bordeaux vintage as it is exceptional value compared to its expensive neighbours, Châteaux Ducru-Beaucaillou and Leoville Las Cases both of which are also 2me Crus.  Sarget de Gruaud Larose is the Château’s second and is a cuvée that sees much of the fruit originally destined for the Grand Vin.

The 2016 Sarget is absolutely gorgeous and is bang-on for drinking now. It’s a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon and 31% Merlot with smaller parts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot and is matured in 15% new oak. Give it an hour’s air and behold the succulent black cherry and brambly fruit. There’s plenty of body here but it’s not overly powerful with the fresh fruit giving it superb balance. There’s plenty to enjoy now but it’ll keep giving pleasure for many years to come.

“It’s just a delicious wine that will give a decade’s worth of drinking pleasure.” Neal Martin, Vinous.com

“Soft, very fresh and with exhilarating vibrancy, it has loads of mineral sparks on the finish.” Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, RobertParker.com
