2015 Valpolicella Superiore, Brolo dei Giusti, Veneto

£33.00 inc. VAT

A big and bold red with underlying finesse and more than a passing resemblance to an Amarone.

The grapes for this wine come from three ‘Broli’ which make up a total of 13 hectares. One of them is in the heart of the Valpantena valley while the other two are in Montorio, on the Val Squaranto side. Altitude is 100 meters above sea level and the soil is clay. Vines are trained in both Guyot and the traditional Pergola systems. The vineyards are managed following sustainable principles.

Grapes were hand-harvested. Once pressed, the must fermented for nine days at a temperature of 26°C. At the end of the fermentation the wine was aged in large oak barrels for 12 months, and then spent another 12 to 24 months in tank before bottling.

This bright red wine with purplish hues brings aromas of red fruits and spices, balanced by delicate hints of violet and bitter almond. Full-bodied and structured on the palate, it shows flavours of mellow red fruits and a dry, elegant and long finish. Great ageing potential but drinking very nicely right now.
