2015 Brunello di Montalcino, Castello Romitorio, Tuscany (Half Bottle)

£23.75 inc. VAT

Having a night in on your own and fancy a glass or two of one of of 2015’s finest Brunellos?  Well this half bottle is probably just what you’re looking for….

Castello Romitorio is an estate that blends wine with art. The castle’s foundations date back to the Roman times but its incarnation as a wine producer began in 1984 when the property was bought as a ruin by artist Sandro Chia. As well as the Castle, Chia took over the vineyards and winemaking on the estate was revived.

In 2005 Sandro’s son, Filippo Chia, joined the company and started a process of profound renewal of the wines and winemaking style, betting on extremely elegant single varietal Sangiovese to embody the characteristics of the terroir. Since then the winery has established itself as one of the finest producers of Brunello di Montalcino and the 2015 was truly exceptional as this bunch of reviews will show –

95 points, “The Castello Romitorio 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is a suave and supple expression that shows a slightly more opulent texture compared to many of its peers.” – Wine Advocate

95 points, “A dense and rich Brunello.” – James Suckling

95 points, “On the palate, it’s soft, enveloping, almost creamy in texture and offset by a mix of savoury spice, fine tannin and saturating mineral tones as black cherry and sage seem to hover on the senses.” – Vinous

One of the most intense and complex wines of the vintage, availability of this wine is very limited.
