2012 Château Meyney, Cru Bourgeois Superior, St. Estèphe, Bordeaux

£42.75 inc. VAT

The 2012 Château Meyney turned out to be a bit of a star at a recent ‘Ten Years On’ tasting of the 2012 Bordeaux vintage. It seems to have shaken off its youthful tannic coast and is entering a phase of delightful openness.

Jancis Robinson MW is a fan of this wine who after tasting wrote “I was very taken by Ch Meyney 2012 St-Estèphe in this vertical, and indeed St-Estèphe in general with its deep, damp soils seems to have coped particularly well with the summer heat in 2012. This is a vintage of Meyney with a particularly high proportion of both Merlot, and Petit Verdot, this late-ripener demonstrating just how ripe the grapes were this year.”

The blend in this vintage is 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 18% Petit Verdot. It has an inviting nose with aromas of cassis, blackberry and earthy mineral notes. Medium bodied on the palate with excellent structure and that dark fruit flavour blending nicely with the ripe tannins. This is an excellent St. Estephe and this Château is again offering the exceptional value it was noted for back in the latter part of the 20th century. Delicious!
