Youthful but totally delicious Barbaresco from an outstanding vintage, described by Tino Colla as the most perfect in his 50 year experience.
Roncaglie has been one of Barbarescos finest wine producing areas for over 100 years and Poderi Colla’s vineyards are one some of its finest plots. Their Nebbiolo vines are between 25-50 years old with high density (4000-5000 per hectare) and yields at 40 hl/ha. The wine is aged in a mixture of Slovenian and French oak casks (partly new) and left to mature for 12-14 months. The wine is given extra ageing in bottle.
Complex on the nose with the variety’s typical rose nuances as well as ample, layered spice, woody and berry sensations. On the palate it’s very full-bodied whilst remaining elegant. Intense and pleasing, long and soft, with a finish of great finesse and appeal and firm, sweet tannins. Delcious now after an hour’s decanting but has the staying power for another 15-20 years.
Wild boar tagliatelle with this – grazi!
