2020 Langhe Nebbiolo, Produttori del Barbaresco – Opening Offer Discount

2020 Langhe Nebbiolo, Produttori del Barbaresco @ £125 per case (6 bottles)

*Limited Offer*

Many of you will need little introduction to Produttori del Barbaresco, a co-operative that is one of Piemonte’s finest wineries and most certainly the producer of the best value wines. Their regular Barbaresco punches way above its weight and modest price tag (£37 per bottle) and is universally praised by the world’s most respected wine critics, while their Riserva Crus (only released in the best vintages) are some of Barbaresco’s most sought after wines.  However, perhaps slightly lesser known, and with an amazing QPR (quality price ratio), is their Langhe Nebbiolo, which we have will available for the best price you’ll find in the UK. Arriving early April, this isn’t one to miss. An elegant, perfumed and quite delicious Nebbiolo from one of the region’s finest producers, a bottle of this retails at £23.25 (or more if you shop around) so by purchasing the case you can save £15.

The Winery

The Produttori del Barbaresco was founded in 1958 by the priest of the village who recognised that the only way for small grape growing properties to survive was to combine their efforts. The first three vintages were produced in the church basement and then in the winery built in the village square where they are still located today. The Produttori co-operative now has 51 members that own around 100 hectares of vineyards in some of the finest sites in Barbaresco and is recognised to have the highest standards of any co-operative in the world.

The Wine

The Produttori makes surprisingly little of this wine as it makes just 20% of the winery’s production. It is 100% Nebbiolo from vineyards around the Langhe region but a large portion of the blend is from declassified Barbaresco grapes. The soils in the area are limestone, clay and sand. After fermentation the wine is aged for five months in large oak barrels which softens the tannins but doesn’t mask the delicious Nebbiolo fruit character. 2020 was a ripe vintage which plays straight into the hands of an early release wine like this. Pour a glass and you are immediately hit with the sublime, red cherry and rose petal aroma. Take a sip and you are charmed by the elegance and finesse but then excited by its grip and structure. After a bit of time open you get a bit of star anise spice and clove on the nose and the fruit gets brighter and the palate more rounded. Although this is a wine made to drink on release it’s only going to get better over the next 2-5 years if you can resist temptation and squirrel away a bottle or two.

If you’re a fan of reds with elegance and finesse at a budget of circa £20 then snap this up at this price whilst you can. Offer ends on Friday 31st March.

You can order this wine either via the website or by emailing orders@songbirdwine.co.uk

2021 Quatro Ventos – Portugal’s Top Value Red

Few Countries offer better value around the £10 a bottle mark than Portugal and, in my opinion, one of the very best at this price point is Quatro Ventos from the Douro valley. I remember this wine blowing me away at a Wines of Portugal tasting back in 2019 and then one week later my […]
