Keeping it local!

Songbird Wines is proud to support local wineries and is a distributer of some of Kent’s finest. Here’s who we currently work with –

Westwell

Westwell, which is located a few miles west from Ashford, was bought by current owners Adrian Pike and Marcus Goodwin in 2017. Since then they have put the estate on the map as one of Kent’s most modern wineries. Focusing on minimum intervention and a more

Westwell’s Adrian Pike: You don’t have to be mad to be a vineyard owner, but it helps

natural approach to winemaking, their wines have made a huge impression both locally and on the fashionable wine lists in London. Their exceptional sparkling wine, NV Pelegrim Brut, beat the likes of Veuve Clicquot and Laurent Perrier in a blind tasting at Plumpton Wine College and has received accolades from the likes of Jancis Robinson MW. But it’s not just about the wine as they are great guys too and us at Songbird Wines always enjoy a trip down the A28 to visit ‘Team Westwell’ and have a chinwag!

Yotes Court, West Peckham

Yotes Court owner Susannah Ricci with Vineyard Manager Tony Purdie enjoying a glass of their rosé – and why not?

There are few Kentish wineries that sit in as glorious a setting as Yotes Court. Nestled in sloping hills on the outskirts of the village West Peckham and overlooking Bidborough Ridge, this a perfect setting for a vineyard. We are delighted to say that the wines produced here are more than a match for the view and their ‘Loose Rein’ Pinot Gris is one of finest examples of this variety you will find in the UK. Under the stewardship of owner Susannah Ricci, Yotes Court has made extraordinary progress since its inception in 2016 and were one of the first accredited Wines of Great Britain Sustainable Producers in England.

They have recently released their first red, 2022 Starter’s Orders Pinot Noir Reserve, and it’s absolutely delicious!

Folc Rosé

Folc co-owner Tom Cannon does a little ‘quality control’ at the Defined winery in Canterbury

Founded in 2019 by couple Elisha Rai and Tom Cannon, folc started life during England’s first taste of ‘lockdown life’; a time when we were all forced to pause and find joy in small pleasures; a walk in the park, a late summer picnic. Songbird Wines began working with Folc in 2022 and we were immediately captivated by the wine’s quality and, to be quite frank, drinkability!

The wine is produced from grapes grown in both Kent and Sussex but is made at the Defined winery on the outskirts of Canterbury, about three miles away from the Songbird Wines headquarters – it doesn’t get much more local than that!

2021 Quatro Ventos – Portugal’s Top Value Red

Few Countries offer better value around the £10 a bottle mark than Portugal and, in my opinion, one of the very best at this price point is Quatro Ventos from the Douro valley. I remember this wine blowing me away at a Wines of Portugal tasting back in 2019 and then one week later my […]
