Award Wining Pinot Grigio – £6.95 A Bottle!

Despite its association with mediocrity, Pinot Grigio – when in the hands of a quality producer – makes some really super white wine for drinking with or without food. You usually find these sit in the circa £9+ per bottle range and that’s what makes this wine a real steal.

Mastri Vernacoli is the brand name for the mid-range wines produced by the excellent Trentino based Cooperative Cavit. The Cavit name is synonymous with not only quality in northern Italy, but also sustainability and have been leading the way in Trentino in sustainable farming for many years.

The fruit here is all handpicked from vines grown close to the Aldige river. The grapes are carefully soft-pressed to stop the natural copper colour being extracted from the skins, but also means the juice is more concentrated. All fermentation and refinement is carried out in stainless steel.

The resulting wine is superb and this offer price is quite unbelievable for a wine of this quality. It won three Gold Medals at three different wine competitions in 2019.

Why is it so cheap? Well, there’s a lot of wine that’s been left unsold to restaurants over the past few months and the 2020 vintage is waiting in the wings. However, I always think quality Pinot Grigio needs a bit of extra time in bottle so for drinking now this is ‘perfecto’. The RRP for this is around £8.95 (or more) but is available here at £6.95 a bottle.

2019 Mastri Vernacoli Pinot Grigio, Cavit, Trentino, Italy. 12.5% @ £41.70 per case (6 bottles)

“Opulent aromas of apple, nuts and hints of honey and wild flowers. Very fresh and vibrant with a lovely citrus zestiness that makes it incredibly inviting. This has a quality you don’t usually see at this price point and puts to shame many pricier wines I’ve tasted over the years.”

Wine available for delivery from Monday 1st March*. Free delivery for 6 bottles of more to most CT and SE postcodes. For delivery to other parts of the UK please see conditions here.

2021 Quatro Ventos – Portugal’s Top Value Red

Few Countries offer better value around the £10 a bottle mark than Portugal and, in my opinion, one of the very best at this price point is Quatro Ventos from the Douro valley. I remember this wine blowing me away at a Wines of Portugal tasting back in 2019 and then one week later my […]
